Why hike the St. Croix Valley in the winter? With summer walkers in hibernation, peace and solitude reign in the woodlands. Busy waters have stilled and are capped with sheets of ice that only the most ambitious currents can escape. Spectacular views are enhanced by dustings of white glitter. Gone are the pesky insects and thick, stifling mugginess of summer. Crisp and cool air infuses the soul with energy and invigorates the body in a way that only the cold-weather months can inspire. Here are some great hike suggestions for Taylors Falls, MN, St. Croix Falls, WI and the surrounding area!
A unique way of exploring the snow covered trails has emerged in recent years and is growing HOT in the St. Croix Valley.
Fat Bikes are a type of specialized mountain bike made for adventures on unstable terrain. These bikes are made to ride on snow covered trails and are equipped with over-sized tires that allow the rider to “float” over previously unrideable conditions. It’s a great workout, fun for the whole family, and a perfect way to extend your biking season.
