WEEKLY UPDATES

9-30-26

This week: The contractor expects to be on site tomorrow morning to continue pouring curb and sidewalk where concrete has been removed. The grading crew will also prepare areas for new sidewalk and ramps. Parking on the west side of STH 87 may be affected during this work.

Next week: Crews plan to continue replacing curb and gutter and sidewalk, with concrete deliveries scheduled to resume Wednesday. Work may take place anywhere concrete has been removed between Illinois Street and Minnesota Street. Parking on the west side of STH 87 may be affected.

 

9-24-26

This week: No further work is planned today. The contractor expects to be on site tomorrow morning to set grade stakes in the areas of removed concrete. Parking and traffic impacts should be minimal for the rest of the week.

Next week: Crews plan to replace concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk. Work may occur anywhere concrete has been removed between Illinois Street and Minnesota Street. Parking on the west side of STH 87 may be affected during this work.

Note from City Administrator, Ryan Heise:

Downtown road construction has been hot and cold. Overall schedule has expanded from 45 working days to 62 working days. Delays in project attributed to damage to city electrical conduit caused by contractor. Concrete work restarts in earnest on Monday, the 28th. Milling and paving now scheduled for mid-October to beginning of November. We commend our downtown businesses who have demonstrated patience and understanding to date.

Next week: Crews plan to replace street lighting conduit on the west side of STH 87. Work may occur anywhere concrete has been removed between Illinois Street and Minnesota Street. Parking on the west side of STH 87 may be affected during this work.

9-11-26

This week: The surveyor is staking in the removal areas from Illinois St to Minnesota St. today.

Next week: Crews plan to continue work on the west side of STH 87, replacing concrete that was removed. This work will potentially take place in all areas of removed concrete, from Illinois St to Minnesota St.  There will be no parking on the west side of 87 during that work.

9-4-26

This week: Holiday weekend, no work until Tuesday morning

8-31-26

This week: Finish storm sewer on the west side of STH 87 near the post office today. Tomorrow, removals at the library crossing and then continue with removals on the west side of STH 87 at Kentucky ST.

Next week: Crews plan to work on the west side of STH 87 from Kentucky ST continuing north to Minnesota ST. There will be no parking on the west side of 87 during that work.

PROJECT TIMELINE

  • Traffic control set up

  • Utility & storm sewer work begins

  • Remove pavers
  • Adjust manhole covers, inlet covers & water valves
  • No milling during this phase
  • Install storm sewer

  • Replace curb ramps & other concrete access features

  • Milling begins in mid October

  • Place new asphalt pavement

  • Place pavement markings

  • Install signs & final finishing work

  • Final clean up & punch list

Access to businesses and homes will be maintained throughout the project.

The contractor will coordinate schedules, phasing, deliveries and temporary impacts.

Advance notice will be provided before activities that may temporarily impact access.

TRAFFIC & PEDESTRIANS

  • WIS 87 will remain open.

  • Expect single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

  • Parking lanes and some parking stalls may be temporarily closed.

  • Sidewalks may be closed in work areas. Pedestrian detours will be signed.
